The most frequently asked questions about a world trip

What are the most frequently asked questions about a world trip?

Before you decide to go on a world tour, are you full of questions, assumptions and riddles. And here I am to help you unravel these big questions, to bring you closer to your dream. Past 5 Years ago I got a lot of questions about what it's like to travel the world. In private I have answered these questions to the people who have asked them, but later I realized that there are more people who will benefit from this. I have bundled the most frequently asked questions into this blog post. If you also have questions, don't hesitate to post it below.

I have saved €5,000, is that enough for a world trip?

It's not really enough, but not impossible either. You can start with €5,000, but along the way you will have to earn extra money to pay for your trip. I would advise you to buy a ticket to Asia and with the rest of the money your vaccinations, to arrange insurances and the first overnight stays. With this budget you cannot avoid going to work on the road or, for example, doing volunteer work in exchange for accommodation and your meals. But it is still possible to take the step. Today there are thousands of ways to travel for every kind of budget thanks to the circular and sharing economy. I would say use it consciously and limit your travel to the cheapest countries in Asia. It may not be a world trip, but you will experience a special trip.

How do you plan where to sleep?, what you want to see and how to get from A to B?

Our best friends while traveling, even if it is for a city trip or a world trip, are bloggers and vloggers. We read a lot of blogs to get an idea of the country we are going to. And based on their tips and our own wishes we make a plan. We plan our accommodations on the move, never very far in advance. We love the flexibility and spontaneity of the moment. If we like the place where we arrive, we stay longer and if it is disappointing, we leave as soon as possible.

We plan the sights purely on the basis of our interests, for instance: walk, extreme sporten, something creative, fly, Cook, photograph & to dance. It's up to you to decide what kind of activities you want to do, one person is not the other. Your wishes and your own character make your trip unique.

Do I have to resign to be able to travel the world?

It very much depends on the job you have. Do you have a job that makes it possible to stay away for a number of months or do you have the option to take unpaid leave or you can work remotely, then you do not have to resign. But if your plan is to stay away for a long time or make a career switch or hang out somewhere indefinitely, then resigning is the most obvious option. To give you a better idea of what it feels like to resign, read this blog post.

Do I really need to take out travel insurance??

And, sure. You can cut back on many aspects of your trip, but not on your insurance. You can just get sick, just like my husband in bolivia (everyone gets sick in Bolivia). Oh how glad we were that we were well insured. He could just go to a private clinic without any problems and that was no superfluous luxury, believe me. And now with the COVID-19 pandemic I definitely wouldn't risk traveling without travel insurance. Be sensible and just do it it will save you a lot of hassle and eventually money.

What would you have done differently with what you know now??

There's one thing we talk about regularly and that's the fact that we've spent so little time on the anticipation. Once we had made the decision to go on a world tour, we left fairly quickly. We had a starting destination, the theme of traveling from Rotterdam NL to Rotterdam Indonesia and the idea of going around the world at least once. But nothing else.

For example, we would have liked to do a photography or videography course well in advance of our trip around the world instead of afterwards. The advantages of leaving blank is that you have a lot of room to improvise or change your plans, which is also very valuable.

Thanks to our flexibility we ended up in Japan and Myanmar. Countries that were not in our planning and that have stolen our hearts.

What is it like with your partner 24 hours to spend year after year?

Very good from our own experience. We got used to it pretty quickly 24 be together for hours, share everything, do everything together. Today we can't even imagine what it's like to miss each other. The lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic has been more of an extension of the way we live together for us. So it wasn't a drastic change for us. It's just important that you keep doing your own thing and that you keep communicating with each other. For the Spanish speaking among us there is an interview on Youtube with Juanlopez where I give tips to all couples who are considering traveling the world together.

Which destination would you not recommend to a novice world traveler?

Pfffff. Difficult. I don't have a destination to advise against as I thought everything was beautiful and special. I found Bolivia spicy in terms of infrastructure and facilities, but that was exactly where the charms and the authentic touch of the country were. The world is just beautiful and everything is absolutely worth seeing and experiencing. There are no bad countries, only with one country you have to be better prepared than with another.

Have you ever become tired of travel??

And, there were moments during the world trip when we were dead tired. We could barely keep our eyes open. We felt satiated with all the impressions and experiences. When we were travel tired, we stayed somewhere longer and didn't do any extra activities. We just took the rest. It feels very crazy to be travel tired. You want to do and see everything inside, but your body and mind tell you to stop for a while and then it is wise to take these signals seriously. So take your time and slow down when you need to.

Which countries should not be missing on your world trip?

We would like to name the whole world, but there are a few countries that we think are very special, as:

New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Iceland, of Bahama's, Chili (Paaseiland), Colombia, Ecuador (Galapagos), Thailand, Indonesia, VS, Canada, China, Egypt, Myanmar and Spain.

Madagascar, Mongolia, South Africa and Kenya are still on our wish list.

How long do you need for a world trip?

This depends on the number of countries you want to see. The more countries, the more time you need. I would for at least 1 years away and there at least 1 month per country for take out.

How much does it cost 1 year on a trip around the world?

The costs of a world trip are of course different per person. Everything depends on the type of trip you make and the countries you visit. We have made a combination of expensive and cheap countries and absolutely do not skimp on the experiences.

The high costs are in the transport. We consciously chose not to buy a world ticket because we didn't want to be tied to a time schedule, but flexibility and freedom costs money. A world ticket could be cheaper, but you can only fly in one direction. If this isn't a problem for you, I would definitely go for a world ticket that costs about €3,500 p.p. costs. In addition to your plane tickets, you need vaccinations that cost about € 80 per shot costs. You need the necessary equipment, think of suitcases, photo and video equipment, good shoes etc. You have to count on an average of € . for accommodations 80 per night. With a budget of € 170-200 euros per day you get very far and you don't have to leave anything, you can afford expensive excursions in expensive countries. If you want to visit less luxurious or only cheaper countries, you could do it with € 60 save a day too.

Are you going on a world trip soon and do you have questions about how to get the most out of your trip? I'm happy to help you with smart travel tips and advice.
