Bilbao, the neglected

after approximately 150 kilometers and 7 further stages we arrived in Bilbao. Here we have doubted whether the city was called the effort to visit, after we had talked a German pilgrim who leave had advised us Bilbao ignore. She found nothing Bilbao, too much industry.

Still, we were curious and we could use a good rest day. So with taped ankles towards Bilbao. The route from Gernika finally fell, and then we were once at the top of the Monte Avril and so looked over Bilbao, I knew that this city had something special. crazy, because if I wanted to make a break in Spain I thought of Barcelona, Madrid, Seville or Bilbao Valencia but did not come to me. This town is not so popular, which in my eyes is now completely unjustified.

Bilbao is the heart of the Basque country with lots of culture, history and traditions. Bilbao has two faces, the modern industrial area (not so interesting and can be found anywhere) and the old part of town (Old Town) full of narrow streets, bars where you can enjoy their culinary delicacy (pinxtos) and the friendliness of its inhabitants. Between txokos (it is a Basque name for a dining society. Here people gather to cook together, food and drink) and the bars of the Siete Calles feel the spirit of the old Bilbao that makes this city so special.
